AW welcomes Rick Bakas, our first winecliQer

Yes, I just made up a word – but for good reason. What is a winecliQer, you may ask? A winecliQer is a wine lover, a wine activist – that friend whose opinion about wine you trust, whose suggestions you seek out. A winecliQer is one who is open to trying new wines, who is all about supporting their local winemaker and buying from the source. A winecliQer is one who uses a winecliQ to share their favorite wines, and thereby pays for their hobby.

winecliQ. Usually one would capitalize the first letter in a word. Not this word. This word, just like the idea, is different. Backwards.

Instead of a store presenting you with what you can buy, highlighting a few “picks” with the numerical opinion of a few people judging the world of wine in their ivory tower, molding the wine market to their tastes, instead of conforming to the prestige of pre-established notions of sophistication a quality, YOU tell your friends (and peers, family, and random admirers) what you like, and why. You are not a Robert Parker, you are you. And that’s what matters to your friends. Instead of choosing a wine based on two digit numbers (89 pts, 98 pts, 73 pts), you make that personal recommendation – a stamp of approval which they can trust.

That is a winecliQer – both a friend promoting their favorite wines, and the friend who buys the wine based on that recommendation. Anyone can be a winecliQer. What is a winecliQ? Click here for a hint – the full unveiling shall come soon.

The FIRST wincliQer, however, is already out there. Some of you may know him – many may not. Rick Bakas. His blog, “Back to Bakas” centers around wine & food pairing, wine reviews, musings about branding and the world of social media. We partnered with Rick as a beta user for the winecliQ uprising because not only is he passionate about the world of American wines, he is a believer in the unharnessed potential of the personal referral in the wine world. Having been active in the American wine world for some time, he has relationships with many of the wineries whose wines he drinks. He is also an avid cook and has a keen mind for combining food with wine. Even if you do not know him, give some of his recipes and pairings a shot – I bet you will not be disappointed. Perhaps he will become a winecliQer whose suggestions you can trust and rely on.

If you want to keep abreast of the developments surrounding the winecliQ, enter your email at winecliq.com, and we’ll let you know when you can get one. In addition, you can join our rapidly growing community of wine lovers and wine activists at social.winecliq.com.

And don’t forget to check out Rick’s blog.
